Design Sprint Experience

User Research & Prototyping

Case Study

The Project

design sprint questions

By conducting a design sprint, I designed a user interface for visitors to a recipe website to submit a recipe as well as design a separate interface that allows the chef in charge of the website to edit, categorize, and publish these recipes. The project called for me to prototype the website and perform user testing to further improve the design.

I first had to understand the current user experience of submitting and publishing recipes. Then, I sketched solutions to the problem. I created a wireframe in Adobe XD and built a responsive prototype using Tailwind. I then performed five user tests and made adjustments to the prototype accordingly. I have listed live previews of the prototypes in both stages below.

Reflection

Having only been my second run of a design sprint, I thoroughly enjoyed the process of user research, ideation, user testing, and improving the design. I had to look at my prototype through as many lenses as I could in order to create a seamless experience for everyone using it.

This project taught me to step outside of my comfort zone of only considering what looks good and instead to put more focus on the users' experience. In the future, I would like to flesh out the design and create a prototype that functions well and looks good.
